The Taylor's T5z Custom Koa Guitar - A Review

The Taylor T5z Custom Koa is a guitar that was first released in 2007. It is a part of the T5 series which includes six different models. The other models in the series are: the Standard, the Deluxe, the Semi-Hollowbody, the 12-String, the Big Baby, and the Traveler. The T5z is unique in that it has a z-glide bridge system which allows for smoother string action and greater tuning stability. It also has a lower bout switch that gives the player access to five different tones. The body of the guitar is made from laminated koa wood and the top is made from Sitka spruce. The guitar comes with gold hardware and a hardshell case. 

The Taylor T5z Custom Koa was designed for players who want an acoustic sound without having to lug around a heavy guitar. It is a versatile guitar that can be used for a variety of genres including: country, pop, rock, jazz, and blues. The built-in pickup system also makes it a great option for playing live shows or recording in the studio. 

Sound Quality

The first thing that you notice when you play the Taylor T5z Custom Koa is how clear and bright the sound is. The koa body provides a nice mid-range snap while the Sitka spruce top gives the highs a nice sparkle. The z-glide bridge system also provides excellent string action which helps to produce clean and articulate notes. Even when playing complex chords, there is very little string noise thanks to the low contact points on the saddle and nut. 

Ease of Use

The second thing that you notice about this guitar is how easy it is to play. The neck has a comfortable C shape profile with 20 frets that are all very accessible thanks to the Venetian cutaway design. The gold hardware also provides a nice contrast against the dark koa body which makes it easy to see where your hands need to be placed when playing complex chords or melodies. 

Versatility

The third thing that you notice about this guitar is how versatile it truly is. Like we mentioned before, it can be used for a variety of genres thanks to its well-rounded soundscape. But what really makes it shine is its ability to go from clean tones to distorted tones with just a flip of a switch. This means that you can use it for both rhythm and lead parts without having to carry around two different guitars.
